Here are just a few cool facts on why Sun bears are such an AWESOME species!

1. Sun Bears Make Nests High Up In Trees.

Sun bears live in the forest of Southeast Asia. And are nocturnal animals, wandering the forest at night to look for food. When they do get tired and need to rest, many sun bears will build nests high up in the trees to help protect themselves and their young from predators. It isn’t only birds hanging out up there! Can you imagine walking through a forest and seeing adorable, wild bears above you?!

2. Sun Bears Are VERY Smart.

Sun bears are very intelligent animals! They use complex facial movements as a form of communication, they are able to memorize where things are, and they use all of their strength, sense of smell, flexibility, and physical attributes to their utmost advantage. 3. Sun Bears Are The Smallest Of The Bear Family.

There are eight bear species in the whole world (Sun Bear, Sloth Bear, Spectacled Bear, American Black Bear, Asiatic Black Bear, Brown Bear, Polar Bear, and Giant Panda) and sun bears are the smallest of them all. Reaching to be about 5 feet tall and 150 lbs. Which is close to the size of an average human.

4. Sun Bears Have A VERY Long Tongue.

Sun bears have very long tongues that can stretch out to 10 inches! Why you might ask… This is to help them get honey and insects out of trees. They will tear off bark from trees with their strong claws and then use their tongue to pull out snacks. AND once they leave, other small animals will use those areas as a new home!

5. Sun Bears Are Very Important To Help Keep Forests Alive And Healthy.

Sun bears are a keystone species (meaning very important) to the survival of forests in Southeast Asia. Their role goes beyond being adorable and unique bears.
